PLOTdotLOST gets place on MBA

Much to my surprise and delight I have been offered a funded MBA by my employer. I applied for the opportunity just after Christmas but was surprised and very pleased at being selected. Over the next two years I have to spend a couple of months on residential courses sharing ideas with people from a wide range of corporations. It’s a great opportunity and one I intend to embrace with both arms. The big boss dropped in today to give me the good news it means a lot to me as even with two exceptional performers under my belt I still often wonder why they keep me around.
At the beginning of the week I was called into a meeting between one of our technical leads, a Redmond consultant and one of our project managers. The project manager asked me to come listen in and see if I could bring some clarity. After listening for five minutes it was clear the problem was two impassioned people largely agreeing but failing to understand each other. One Dutch the other American go figure the problem. All I did was rephrase statements in a language that both could understand, with ten minutes consensus was reached and the phrase “very productive” was used. Both parties stopped me later in the week to thank me for my involvement for moving the project on. Largely I’d done nothing.
