Its been a bad week for computers. It all started when one of the guys I work with lost yet another Maxtor drive causing him to loose 1.5TB of data. He was not all that bothered but it was the second time it happened in a couple of months. My ex-wife’s portable HD crashed with yet another Maxtor drive, apparently it just stopped spinning. Both disks were less than three months old. My favorite 1942 Server also went up in smoke, my German is not that great but kindly one of the guys told me the hard disk had gone. Since my girlfriend has my gaming PC (3000+, Golden Sample, Sounblaster Audology ZS Pro, 7.1 Speaker system, 1.5 Gig, dual 10,000 RPM SATA boot drives) I’ve been using an old Athlon 850 (with some serious over clocking) with a 9600XT and a soundblaster live as my main system. I bought this PC around 1998 but over the last few weeks it has become more and more unreliable. On Friday night it finally stopped working, it was in such a state it would not even get as far as checking the memory or the processor in its pre boot check. I stripped it down cleaned everything removed/reinserted all chips, removed the battery and cleared the CMOS. Put it all back together and hey presto it lived again. Then I had my next problem in its finial throws the PC had managed to corrupt the registry. Deep joy boot into the windows recovery console and restore from the repair directory all this messing about cost me best part of a day.
The farm progressed a long way over the last couple of days. The pile of rubbish from two years of building is not more!!! I’ve no idea how one guy could move that mountain by hand over four days. All three rooms now have new ceilings, electrics, plumbing, doors, windows and walls. Next step is to replace all the floors. The guys tell me this will all be completed by Wednesday. It will be a total of 24 Man days of work for the work on the house. The plastering and making good will take another 6 man days. I’m delighted with the work so far it looks like in a couple of months the farm will be complete and can be sold.
Today I'm going to complete installing the Fibre optics in the shower room and perhaps connect the heated floor. In a couple of weeks four bedrooms, most of the living room and one bath room will be complete. Just leaving the master bedroom and one other bedroom to complete.
Later I'm off to cook my girlfriend a fish supper and hang out, now thats what I'm talking about!!!
