For the first time since Christmas I have a weekend with nothing major to do. If I’ve not been away with work, its been hard slog getting all the rubbish sorted out from the last years building work. When you gut the inside of a house and replace the huge roof it generates a mountain of rubbish. This had formed a big pile at the back of the farm which throughout the year had blown or got moved all over the place. One of the interesting things in Holland is that you have to sort building waste. It makes sense in a country that does not have landfill sites where all waste must be burned or recycled out of necessity. Now its down to about 80 cubic meters of mixed building waste. The bricks are going to be dug back into the land so I can build a concrete standing for horse boxes, the tractor and the like. If there is enough left over I will make a new fireproof muckheap to replace the iron container that is currently there for the job. That will leave about 60 cubic meters of mixed waste which will end up costing a couple of 1000 euros to have taken away (plus a lot of barrow loads). Once this has all gone the last round of building work can start. Have a meeting tomorrow with a potential new builder who has prepared a quote for the new heating system and the completion of three of the downstairs rooms. All the structural work is now complete new roof plus supporting pillars and the hayloft has been converted into a 170 sq meter living space. I might do the last of the electrical runs this/next week so all that will be left is the plastering/heating upstairs.
I have a date with my not so ex girlfriend later today going around to our old home to cook supper and watch a movie. Went for a drink with her at one of our old haunts last night had a good time and for the first time in a couple of months I felt normal again. We talked about planning a holiday together. What with the air miles I have already collected and the three or four trips I have to Redmond over the next three months we can go pretty much anywhere. Once the farm is finished it will be time to look for another job and move on, hopefully together.
On Sunday I have a meeting with the builder but more importantly I have been invited over for dinner by one of the guys who used to work for me. Should be a good laugh as his wife is great company and the plan is to have a traditional Sunday roast. Will have to make something for pudding will get my thinking cap on when I got to the shops this morning to get the stuff for tonight.
